    Bjelolasica



Bjelolasica is located in the west part of Gorski Kotar and it is its highest mountain – from its Kula peak, the view stretches as far as Istria and Kvarner. It is also very close to Adriatic coast. Its bright and narrow ridge protrudes above the forest, giving the mountain its name (Croatian derivation of Latin name meaning 'white mountain'). The mountain is intertwined with paths and cycling trails, hiking trails and roads so it is easy to reach its beautiful landscapes and enjoy the view of nature beauties. It is a place where everyone can enjoy: families, nature and outdoor activity lovers, cyclists, hunters, hikers, mountaineers and everyone else who likes to spend time in the fresh air and close to adriatic coast.

Within 90 km radius there are many natural and other attractions so visiting Bjelolasica van be combined with various trips and activities: hiking, cycling, rafting, canoeing, paintball, horse riding, swimming in sea or lake, tour of old castles or fairy tale museums for children.




In the near vicinity there are:

Kula peak – the highest peak of Gorski Kotar rises 1534 meters above sea level and there are several more or less demanding hiking trails leading to it, some of which are only 200 m away from Villa Olimp
Klek mountain hut - it is located on Klek mountain above Ogulin, where one can enjoy some breathtaking views of Ogulin, Bjelolasica and Sabljaci lake. Strict nature reserve The White and Samarske Rocks - this protected mountain landscape includes unusual rock formations, steep cliffs and denuded karst peaks. It is one of the most demanding hiking trails in Croatia where you can enjoy unspoiled nature. Sabljaci lake – 30 km away, this reservoir formed on the flow of Zagorska Mrežnica and it is an ideal location for fishermen and other active people (swimmers, rowers, canoeists, cyclists and windsurfers).
Geomorphological reserve Vražji prolaz and Zeleni Vir – Vražji prolaz (Devil's pass) is some 40 km away and it is a narrow canyon through which runs Jasle stream. It meanders through the rocks and it is a very interesting location to visit. In the near vicinity of Vražji prolaz there is Zeleni vir, a strong water spring at the bottom of a shallow and wide cave. When water passes its edge, it falls down a 70 meters high rock.
Ivana’s House of Fairy Tales is a unique multimedia and interactive visitor’s centre where Ivana Brlić – Mažuranić and her characters form Stories form long ago hosts are hosts to all fairy tales and their makers. Located within the mediaeval Frankopan Castle in Ogulin city centre, Ivana’s House of Fairy Tales consists of a permanent multimedia exhibition, a library, a multifunctional space for workshops, and a souvenir shop. The activities of Ivana’s House extend to its website, which includes a virtual Fairy-Tale Database and an online library.
Hunting grounds – this area is known for its diverse and numerous animal species, and it includes the hunting grounds of Bjelsko, Klek, Bjelolasica, Sjeverni Velebit, Mala Kapela...
Risnjak National Park – this Park is some 50 km away and it includes two mountain ranges, Risnjak and Snježnik, and the upper part of Kupa river flow. It has thick forest areas and numerous animal species and it is an ideal destination for hikers and mountain lovers.
Sjeverni Velebit National Park – this Park is 85 km away and it includes the north part of the biggest mountain in Croatia, Velebit. Its area consists of rocky landscape, thick forests and karst valleys and it is a habitat for many animal species. It is particularly known for its karst caves.
Plitvice Lakes National Park – the oldest national park in Croatia, it is located 90 km from Bjelolasica. The beauty of its 16 emerald green and blue lakes is well known. The lakes cascade down the mountain slopes, with water flowing from one to another through many streams and waterfalls. the most famous fall is Veliki slap, the highest waterfall in Croatia.
Kuterevo bear sanctuary – some 90 km away, this sanctuary takes care of big and small bears and it releases them back to the wild if possible. It can be visited from spring to autumn, while it is closed during winter so that animals can hibernate undisturbed.
Novi Vinodolski – this small town is situated on the Adriatic coast and being just 47 km away it is a great opportunity to make a sea trip and discover the coastal side of Velebit, while having fun and the beach and soaking up sun.
